How often do you go to your local library? Monthly? Yearly? Never even been? Libraries can be many different things depending on how or when you use them, and I think many people would be surprised with how helpful they are.
The Mamaroneck Public Library offers many programs for kids, teens, and adults. It offers free online homework help, can help you prep for the SAT/ACTs, and provides volunteer options. Young children have their own separate room filled with books and games where they are free to make as much noise as they want, and can develop their literacy skills by reading to a therapy dog. There are also many resources available for adults, like free wi-fi hotspots that anyone can apply for.
The Larchmont library offers many of these programs in varied ways, as well as classes for adults and teens. You can also reserve a room to study or hold study groups, if you would like a calm and designated area to work. It also offers passes to go to museums. The Harrison Library also offers many services, like classes on cooking or performances. In general, any library you can find will have something to help you!
Although libraries offer many programs, there is one thing that people think of when they think of library: books! Libraries are free to use, and you can take out any book you want. In fact, you can take out a whole bunch! If you aren’t a fan of reading, but want to try it, a library card permits you to get a bunch of options and have no obligation to read them. Librarians can help you pick out books that you are interested in, and can also help if you have no clue what to read.
Don’t underestimate the importance of a library card. It can open up so many doors for you, whether you are in need of a calm space to do work or a place to just check out some books. A library is a wonderful place.
