There are many negative effects of drinking coffee, but what are the benefits? Millions of people in the world constantly drink coffee, whether it's on the way to work, to help them stay awake, or just as soon as they wake up. Many people cannot go a day without it. Johns Hopkins Medicine posted an article listing multiple benefits of drinking coffee. The list says that you could live longer, your body can process glucose better, you are less likely to develop heart failure, and less likely to develop Parkinson's Disease. The list also states that your DNA is stronger, you may decrease your risk of getting Alzheimer's disease, including many other positive benefits. From other sources, it says that coffee can improve your mental alertness, reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes, and also lower the risk of certain cancers.
Although this could all be true, there are also negative effects of drinking coffee. Some of these effects include getting anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, and an increased heart rate. With these negative effects, why do people still drink coffee every single day? The reason why people drink coffee is that it gives them energy. For example, if you are driving for a long amount of time, and you need some energy, most people would pull over and get a cup of coffee. This is because coffee gives you energy “through the stimulant caffeine, which primarily works by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain”. Overall, there are more benefits than negatives in drinking coffee and many people feel it is a great start to the day. (Citations)
