Hello there, my name is Mary Hannah Greene, and people know me as the short girl at school, transfer student from Florida, BTS lady, or the mom of the group. I'm originally from Orlando, Florida and moved up here during the summer of 2019 to Steuben. The biggest change for me coming from a pure city girl was the long drives to just get toilet paper or even some junk food/fast food. Especially how there were no Uber Eats. Another big change was the weather. I come from where the weather is always in the 90s and you're lucky if you even get it down to the 70s. When I came up here I was so annoyed with the weather change in temperature, the cold breezes where I couldn't wear what I wore in Florida and the different styles (and I will be honest I still say this...I am still cold) but I worked through it and I can now say I can handle SOME of the cold. I have made plenty of friends here in Maine and I still have some of my Florida friends and I'm glad that I can have some from both worlds.
As a senior, I have had a lot of experience when it came to publishing, photography, writing, etc. During my freshman year in Orlando, Florida before I moved, I took my first photography class which helped me with my skills with a camera. I learned how to use photoshop, certain settings on different cameras, cool tricks to use with the camera, printing, and many more! When I moved up here to Maine, I used those skills during Sumner journalism class and helped others while teaching them to use a camera with different techniques. I would also use my writing skills while also using my creativity after taking all of my years of school (Elementary-High School) in different art classes to help the class with projects, school events, classroom shenanigans, and other ideas!

cosmetology
I would like to enter my journey/the workforce into cosmetology. The definition of cosmetology is "the art and science beautifying the hair, nails, and skin. A cosmetologist is an expert in applying cosmetic procedures, therapies, and treatments to beautify one's outer appearance., and implementing cosmetic treatments to people's hair, skin, and nails.". I have always found a sense of interest when it came to little Mary wanting to play with makeup, wanting more makeup such a lipgloss and eyeshadow, mixing makeup together to make"new" makeup, and experiment with new techniques or colors.
travel
One of my goals after high school was to travel to places I've always wanted to see when I was a little girl. One of the main places I wish to see in Japan. For a long time, I've always been drawn to it in a way I can't explain. And no it's not because of the anime, or the clothes or food (even though those are all amazing) it's just because of how beautiful it is, the meaning behind that place, and plenty of more reasons than I could list but we would be here for a while. I wish to see this place as soon as possible and experience new things I never experienced before. To see the beautiful cherry blossoms, the amazing food, temples/shrines, the mountains, beautiful night lights through the streets and etc.
bts
Something that I dream of seeing or even getting the chance to see in person is one of my long-life goals, BTS. They have gotten me to places of happiness, relaxation, and peace more than others have in my lifetime. I discovered BTS when I was in 7th grade when one of their songs popped up on my youtube page called "blood sweat & tears". After listening to/ viewing their music video I started the deep pool of BTS and wanted to learn more about them, plus each member. They have been together for over 9 years and still counting, and one day I hope to see them, listen to them, and to thank them for how far they got me in life and still going to this day.
events at school...
prom
This was my first ever prom I ever attended in my high school years. I never wanted to go to a prom when I wasn't a senior. I know that sounds weird but I wanted my prom to be special and have a meaning behind it unlike people just going to a high school dance to just party and hang with friends. I waited 4 years to have a prom and I wouldn't change it for the world on how mine went this year. My dress was my dream dress I wanted for a while now which was an evergreen grey color with an under-layer of sparkle and with a corset back, and to add to it...it had vines on the chest piece almost like it was a growing enchanted tree. I got to go to my prom with a theme I've always wanted my dance to be...Enchanted Forest. I got to put real flowers in my hair, have the most sparkly shoes and honestly just feel like a princess. The people who went with me were people I loved and wouldn't change it for anything, they made my night by being by my side and dancing our hearts out to our favorite songs that popped up.
civil rights team
It was my honor to join the Civil Rights Team to help others in need and to show my school pride in the events and creativity of the team. I've known Mrs. Wyler for my whole 3 years here at Sumner before I transferred and she has always been so welcoming to me and accepting what I had to bring to the table. When I was offered to join the Civil Rights Team during my senior year, I thought this would be a good way to end my year while helping others. We got the opportunity to join a game for the Civil Rights Team at a Sea Dogs game in Portland to show off our school's Civil Rights Team spirit! It was a super fun day and I'm glad we got to prep for more events for future Civil Rights Team movements for the rest of the school days!
my final message...
As my final words to Journalism, I would like to thank you all for making sure at the end of my days we always had our big laughs, and biggest smiles and always making sure we all are okay (and always keeping in check that we are in fact Mrs. Mathewson's favorite class hehe). The people in Journalism all have our own personalities and different interest but that's what brings us together because it allows us to grow stronger and explore the differences we have to bring to the table. With all of that on the table, what tops it off is our amazing journalism teacher, Mrs. Mathewson. Someone who was always there for her students and would drop anything to make sure we have everything we need and etc. I'm sure I can speak for us all, we LOVE YOU MRS. MATHEWSON! Thank you all for being the best class I have ever had in my high school years, please keep The Roar going and make sure you keep spreading your positivity and love for each other. <3
Messages from Mrs. Mathewson...
Mary is one of those incredibly special souls - of whom we meet only few in our lifetimes. I have been incredibly fortunate to get to know Mary throughout this past year in our Journalism class, and I feel my life will be forever changed for the better. Mary is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever met, and she spreads her positive vibes everywhere she goes. I am very proud of how Mary grew not only in her writing and speaking skills during Journalism, but also in her communication skills - and she really put those to practice! Mary, I am confident you will keep in touch with me and I look forward to learning of your future successes! I am truly grateful for all the smiles, the laughs, the tears, and of course, the BTS knowledge, I learned from and shared with you this year. Sumner is a better place for having had you walk its halls!!!

Hello Miss Mary Slay,
It went from saying hello to each other in the halls to talking and stuff every single day. We've hung out more times than I can count and I'm excited for what the summer will bring us. Thank you for allowing me to come into your life !
Love you most, and also,
Josh <3
Hey Mary,
I may have just gotten to know you this school yeah, but it has been such a blast. Being in Social Studies with you made the class so much better. Go on to be amazing things and never stop being the best!
