May was Mental Health Awareness Month
In the United States, 1 in 5 adults struggle with mental illness. Established in 1949, Mental Health Awareness brings awareness to how trauma and day to day life impacts us. Along with the reality of living with a mental illness. Each year during May, people join together to fight against stigma, spread awareness on different types of mental illnesses, along with celebrating growth and healing.

How to Support Someone Struggling With Mental Health
Provide a safe space for the person to talk about it: Stigma is common surrounding mental illness, which can make it scary to talk about. Allow the person to take their time, and share only as much as they want. Make sure when talking about something serious like mental health, that you listen and dont have distractions around. Listen without judgement!
Respond to them and provide support: After being vulnerable, provide support. Comfort them if that is what they want, or if they want some alone time and space provide that too. Let them know you are there, in anyway they need you to be.
Advocate: Mental health and mental illness impacts so many people world wide.
