The sixth grade course examines the concepts of how good nutrition, adequate sleep and exercise enhances mental health. Stress reduction skills will be taught along with holistic ways to improve both physical and mental health. Life skills include basic first aid, digital citizenship, social media safety, reduction in bullying behaviors, and learning to improve peer interaction. During the course, students will be expected to apply effective and efficient strategies for gathering information, think and reflect critically about their personal health, and create solutions to
improve their overall health. They will be expected to engage in appropriate discourse with other students, use technology appropriately, and to read and write effectively.
The seventh grade course examines the concept of Wellness throughout the life cycle, with exploration of life stages and the developmental task of each stage. Using a scientific approach, students will learn about the endocrine system of hormone production, male/female reproduction and fetal development from conception to birth. The concept of abstinence is stressed. Physical and emotional changes during puberty will be explored. Social media and physical safety concerns will be addressed. Positive peer relationships will be stressed, along with healthy decision-making.During the course, students will be expected to apply effective and efficient strategies for

The eighth grade course emphasizes the significance of personal values, the roles of self-esteem and peer pressure in personal development, along with choices and consequences and setting and achieving personal goals. Class activities focus on building positive relationships skills, decision-making skills, and the use of positive communication styles and conflict resolution. Substance abuse prevention education will highlight the physical/psychological effects of drugs and alcohol, along with the legal and personal dangers associated with use of these substances. During the course, students will be expected to apply effective and efficient strategies for gathering information,think and reflect critically about their personal health, and create solutions to improve their overall health. They will be expected to engage in appropriate discourse with other students, use technology appropriately, and to read and write effectively.
This course places emphasis on the fundamental skills and basic game knowledge required to be successful in playing and understanding team and individual sports and fitness activities. The program is designed to develop basic skills and coordination necessary for participation in team and individual sports and fitness activities at a beginner level. In addition, students are expected to develop an awareness and appreciation for the skills necessary to acquire and maintain a lifetime of good health and fitness. All sixth graders must participate in the Connecticut physical fitness testing. Physical Education classes are designed to practice and develop skills in activities that will help students maintain fitness throughout their life. Building upon grade 6, this course covers the skills and game knowledge of team and individual sports and fitness activities at an intermediate level. The program is designed to practice and improve upon basic skills necessary for participation. Physical Education classes are designed to practice and develop skills in activities that will help students maintain fitness throughout their life. Students will understand

In 8th grade physical education the emphasis is placed on the fundamental skills and game knowledge required to be successful in playing and understanding team and individual sports and fitness activities at a more advanced level. The program is designed to further develop and build up basic skills and advanced coordination. In addition, students are expected to develop a deeper awareness and appreciation for the skills necessary to acquire and maintain a lifetime of good health and fitness. All 8th graders must participate in the Connecticut physical fitness testing. Physical Education classes are designed to practice and develop skills in activities that will help students maintain fitness throughout their life. Students will understand the benefits that regular exercise can provide for a person’s mental, physical, and social health.
