Students entering Grade 4 have the opportunity to do additional math practice during the summer.
During the first week of school next fall, there will be a Summer Math Learning Celebration! Students entering HKIS grades 4 and 5 will all participate in outdoor math games. Those who do the summer math learning will be entered in raffles for board games that use math! Yeah!
Students have 2 choices:
(1) “Get Ready for 4th Grade” Khan Academy course (recommended by CT Dept of Ed)
Complete units of study and log your mastery checks on Khan Academy.
Get Ready for 4th Grade - class code 8JQ7U9YY
(2) Summer Math Packet
Complete a set of engaging problems that cover a variety of topics.
Paper packets will be sent home in late May and are available in the school office.
Please bring in a completed packet or we can access your digital log of Khan Academy mastery checks on the first day of school in order to participate in the Summer Math Learning Celebration.
The Connecticut State Department of Education offers the Commissioner's Summer Math Challenge. The Summer Math Challenge is a free program that helps your child practice math skills taught during the school year. When you enroll your child, you’ll get access to daily fun activities and resources designed for your child’s grade and ability level. There are choices, too!
The Summer Math Challenge runs from June to August 31, 2026.
