Course Plan Information and Resources

• IB Courses officially begin in 11th grade and must be taken at Westwood High School by IB trained teachers.

• 9th and 10th grade students are considered IB Prep. These courses (IB Prep Human Geography and IB Prep US History/AP US History) must be taken at Westwood. Courses on the MATH and FOREIGN LANGUAGE pathways must be taken at Westwood as well

• IB course plans will be created with all 10th graders in IB Prep and submitted to the IB Coordinator.

Incoming 9th Graders:

• If you are interested in the IB program, you should sign up for IB Prep Human Geography (course # 2204, TAG course # 2208)

• We recommend you take the following courses to prepare for the IB program

  • Advanced English I (course #1113, TAG course #1115)

  • Advanced Biology (course #4012, TAG course #4315)

  • Math: follow pathway with next available course; see math page for more information

  • Foreign Language: follow pathway with next available course; see foreign language page for more information

Incoming 10th Graders:

• If you are interested in the IB program, you should sign up for either:

  • IB Prep US History (course #2340, TAG course # 2341)

  • AP US History (course #2334, TAG course # 2239)

  • See this slide for information about the two courses

• We recommend you take the following courses to prepare for the IB program

  • Advanced English II (course #1123, TAG course #1125)

  • Advanced Chemistry (course #4133, TAG course #4134)

Incoming 11th Graders (begin IB Program in August of Junior Year):

• We will create your IB Course Plan in your IB Prep class (Mrs. Key will visit your classes in October)

• As you are working on your IB Course Plan, make sure you have:

  • 3 HLs (must be taken junior and senior year)

  • 3 SLs (can be taken junior or senior year if a one year SL; only two SL courses can be completed in 11th grade)

  • OR 4 HLs and 2 SLs

  • TOK in spring of junior year and fall of senior year

  • All IB courses must be taken at Westwood High School by IB trained teachers.

• Your 11th grade year should contain:

  • TOK (spring)

  • Your 3 or 4 HL courses (year 1)

  • A maximum of 2 SL courses

• Your 11th grade year should contain:

  • TOK (fall)

  • Your 3/4 HL courses (year 2)

  • Your remaining SL course(s)
