Storytelling celebrates the art of listening and retelling. This contest helps students build important skills in speaking, memory, and creative expression while boosting confidence and imagination. It also strengthens language development and active listening in a fun, supportive way.
During the contest, students listen to a short story read aloud only once. After listening carefully, each student retells the story in their own words to a judge or panel. The goal is to capture the main ideas, characters, and feelings of the story while adding personal expression and natural delivery.
There are no time limits for retelling, and students can practice by listening to stories from any good children’s book or magazine. This event is a wonderful fit for students who enjoy telling stories, using expression, and sharing their voice.
