Music Memory helps students discover the beauty and variety of great music. Through this contest, students learn to listen carefully, recognize famous pieces, and connect music to history and culture. It is a celebration of listening, learning, and appreciation for composers from around the world.
Each school year, students study a brand-new list of musical selections. During the contest, they listen to about 20 seconds of each piece and identify the title, the composer, and sometimes the larger work it comes from. Students also explore stories about the composers and the times in which they lived, gaining a deeper understanding of music as both art and history.
This contest encourages focus, memory, and a love of learning that goes far beyond the classroom. Whether students already play an instrument or are simply curious about music, it gives them a chance to shine through listening and recognition skills.
