Below you will find guidance on course planning for students interested in pursuing one more more IB Course in 11th or 12th grade. Please remember that these are SUGGESTIONS and not requirements. Students can take anywhere from 1 IB Course all the way to engaging in the full diploma programme, and taking 7 IB Courses. The IB Coordinator and the student's counselor can help students decide which path is right for them.
Specifics about all courses at Oakmont can be found in our course catalog. The IB Program can be found on pages 14-20
For students who are interested in pursuing IB Courses in 11th or 12th grade, here are some suggestions for Grade 9 course enrollment:
ALL 9th graders should take the following courses:
CP English 9
NGSS Biology
PE 9
Health and Wellness
Visual and Perfoming Arts (VAPA)
Students should take the math course that is appropriate for their level. Students CAN 'double up' in math and take two courses in an academic year. However, care should be taken no to accelerate too much as you may struggle to find a math course in 11th and 12th grade that is appropriate for you.
By the end of 10th grade, students need to complete CCIM3 for IB Math SL in 11th grade or Precalculus for Math HL in 11th grade.
Students should take the language course appropriate for their current level. For some, this will mean starting at level 1, others may be ready for level 2 or beyond. Students can 'double up' and take 2 language courses in one year.
By the end of 10th grade, students will need to complete through Level 3 in order to enroll in IB language courses in 11th grade.
9th graders are encouraged to start a CTE, VAPA or elective pathway in 9th grade in order to leave room in their schedules to complete the pathway before graduation. While not a requirement, all students are encouraged to have a wide range of academic and elective courses while at Oakmont.
For students who are interested in pursuing IB Coures in 11th and 12th grade, here are some suggestions for Grade 10 course enrollment:

PE 10
NGSS Physics or NGSS Chemistry (or both)

Students will need to complete through CCIM3 by the end of 10th grade for IB Math SL in 11th grade, or Pre-Calculus for IB Math HL in 11th grade
Students should take the language course appropriate for their current level. For some, this will mean starting at level 1, others may be ready for level 2 or beyond. Students can 'double up' and take two language courses in one year
Students will need to complete through Level 3 by the end of 10th grade in order to enroll in IB language courses in 11th grade.
10th graders are encouraged to start a CTE or elective pathway in 9th grade in order to leave room in their schedules to complete the pathway before graduation. While not a requirement, all students are encouraged to have a wide range of academic and elective courses while at Oakmont.
Students will need to decide if they are going to pursue the full IB Diploma, or just a selection of IB Courses. Depending on this selection, students will then choose one of our Diploma pathways, or choose how many, and which IB Courses to take. Many options are outlined in the next section, however please remeber these are just SAMPLES, and there are more combinations available.
