Longfellow Elementary School was built in 1947 and sits on 6 acres. The school site currently faces logistical challenges due to its small foot print, no onsite parking and 12 portable classroom buildings.  

Under Measure O, it will receive a new 6 kindergarten and 6 general education classroom building, with new play area, new administration building, new parking lot, and modernization of existing buildings. 

Measure O Improvements will include:

• One new (2-Story) modular building to house lower and upper grade levels.

• One new single-story modular building to house lower grade levels.

• One new administration office to enhance the point of entry to school site.

• New parking lot area for easy student drop off and accessible parking for community and personnel.

• New landscape areas with benches.

• Asphalt areas with adequate path of travel.

• New play areas.

• Exterior modernization to existing buildings (A – F) with new roof and paint.

• Interior modernization to existing buildings ( A – F) with new: white boards, tack boards, sinks and counters, plumbing fixtures, ceiling tiles and accessible upgrades to restrooms.    

• Completion:  August 2023

Project Budget:  $24,295,610.00

• Acquired two properties located at: 2210/2226 7th Street ,in preparation to construct new parking lot and new entrance to school site.

• Bid No. 1 - Purchase of New Modular Buildings Finalized: 02/24/2022

• Bid No. 2  - Modernization of Existing Buildings: Target  Date: 04/28/2022

• Construction Timeframe/Mobilization: June 2022 thru October 2023.
