Spanish I students enter a differentiated setting in learning Spanish. A strong emphasis is placed on all four aspects of language learning: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Basic proficiency in everyday conversational settings is a main goal of this level. Students should be able to use Spanish in common situations, such as greetings and introductions, telling time, expressing likes and dislikes, clothing, describing people, expressing possession, using dates, describing classes and classroom objects, requesting food, describing location,
discussing plans, talking on the phone and expressing feelings. Present tense verb forms, vocabulary, and grammatical structures are introduced and studied.

Spanish II is designed to develop and expand the language skills which students learned in Spanish I. Students develop their knowledge of Spanish vocabulary with an intense study of verb forms, vocabulary, and grammatical structures of the language in addition to using the software program, Duolingo. Students should be able to use Spanish in common situations such as expressing preferences, discussing sports, making comparisons, describing the weather, expressing opinions and feelings, traveling, shopping, dining, restaurant etiquette, daily routines and chores, grooming, household terms, leisure time activities, fine arts, media, and childhood experiences. Reading and writing skills are more advanced at this level.

Spanish III is designed to expand knowledge of Spanish learned in both Spanish I and II. It will focus on all four aspects of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a stronger emphasis on reading and writing. Students will enlarge their knowledge of Spanish vocabulary even more with an intense study of verb forms, vocabulary, and grammatical structures of the language. Students should be able to have detailed conversations about topics such as: describing people and events, fashion, events that may take place in the future, household chores, expressing desires, environmental issues, celebrations, holidays, historic events, asking questions and forming arguments. Students will also be exposed to several video series where Spanish is being spoken by native speakers. This is a great course for students who are college bound or for those who would like to have bilingual capabilities in their workplace.

AP Spanish Language and Culture is equivalent to an intermediate level college course in Spanish. Students cultivate their understanding of Spanish language and culture by applying interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication in real-life situations as they explore concepts related to family and communities, personal and public identities, beauty and aesthetics, science and technology, contemporary life, and global challenges. Students can choose to take the AP Spanish exam in May for the possibility to earn college credit.
