SAT vs ACT

TELL ME MORE:

The SAT and ACT are entrance exams used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. They are both multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper tests.

The purpose of the SAT and ACT tests are to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays. How important SAT and ACT scores are in the college application process varies from school to school.

Overall, the higher you score on the SAT and/or ACT, the more options for attending and paying for college will be available to you.

***SAT/ACT UPDATE***

**The California State University (CSU) no longer uses ACT or SAT examinations in determining admission eligibility for all CSU campuses. **UC will not consider SAT or ACT test scores when making admissions decisions or awarding scholarships. If you choose to submit test scores as part of your application, they may be used as an alternative method of fulfilling minimum requirements for eligibility or for course placement after you enroll. -A New UC entrance exam is being formulated in place of.

AS OF NOW, PLAN TO STILL TAKE THE EXAM FOR SOME PRIVATE SCHOOLS & NONRESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS (OUT OF STATE & INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL'S-(unless otherwise noted)
