WHAT IS CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT/DUAL ENROLLMENT?
A program offered at local community colleges (Any local community college-Enrollment processes vary per each campus) allowing qualified students to enroll in college courses while simultaneously attending high school. Credits earned through concurrent/dual enrollment may be used to fulfill high school and college certificate ( to be continued after high school), transfer, or graduation requirements. (Restrictions vary per school campus/FEES will incur for courses taken outside of Valley Now!)
Valley Now! is partnership between San Bernardino Valley College & Rialto High School that provides high school students the opportunity to take specific college credit courses....FOR FREE! per semester.
Earn College Credits, you will have less classes to take in college
Earn High School Credits; possibly free up a period to take a different course
Save money, the tuition is paid by RUSD therefore, it is FREE
College Preparation, experience a college course and prepare yourself for the future
Enhance your College Application, it shows you are an ambitious and a dedicated student
Learn Time Management, learn to balance a more rigorous course and your schedule
Depending on the courses offered you will have a better idea of what major/ career you would like to pursue in college
Those seeking academic classes that are transferable to a four-year university (courses numbered 100 or higher) must be in the 11th or 12th grade, with an academic high school GPA of 2.0 or higher, and have good grades in courses which are similar to the ones they want to take at SBVC.
Those seeking vocational classes (classes which prepare students for employment in a specific trade or occupation) should have a 2.0 GPA, and have good grades in classes which are similar to the ones they want to take at Valley.
Concurrent high school students may not enroll in Basic Skills courses (Courses numbered 900 or higher), Kinesiology (aka PE) courses, or any course which is available to them in high school. High School students are limited to 11 units per semester.
Eligible 9th and 10th grade students will also need to submit a Petition for Academic Exception and approval is per the course's Department Dean at Valley College.
