Triptych

This year Room 28 completed a triptych. Triptych art is made up of three panels that are intended to be displayed together. We started by choosing a theme - spring, sport or music. We then chose a subject and set about photographing our subject for our first panel. From our photograph, we zoomed in on two different parts. One part became our stippled panel and the other our stencil panel. We chose to work in black and white to further link each panel of our our triptych.

Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was music. The subject I chose to focus on was violin because of it’s complicated curves, depth and crevices. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was cutting my stencil and making sure it was all in one piece. I am most proud of my stipple and the depth and dimension of it. I learnt that even though the stipple is simple, it’s also effective at the same time.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a dried rose because living flowers are vivid and lively but a dried flower is in an eternal serene sleep. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was deciding what part to do the stencil on. I am most proud of my stipple because of the depth and dimension. I learnt that you can mix abstractness with still life and still look complete.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a type of weed that I found on the fence on the back of the field because it looked beautiful and I liked it. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was having the patience to stipple for a long time. I am most proud of finishing my triptych because I didn’t consider myself an artist at the start. I learnt that art takes a lot of patience and is 80% observing and 20% working.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a daisy. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was stippling because it was difficult to darken and lighten the subject. I am most proud of my stencil because it turned out perfect. I learnt that when you are dabbing the white paint on the stencil, you should press hard on the stencil otherwise it would get under the stencil and smudge.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring because I had a lot of amazing options. The subject I chose to focus on was flowers because it gives a lot of contrast in a black and white photo. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stipple because I had to get the shading and darkness in the right spaces. I am most proud of my photo because I had perfect contrast and shading and also I picked a good flower. I learnt that little details in art matter.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a jasmine flower because I liked the detail and shading it had in the colour black and white. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was getting the shading, light and detail to match perfectly into my stipple art piece. I am most proud of accomplishing all these pieces of art I have done as I am not much of an artist myself, so being able to do something amazing like this makes me happy chappy! I learnt that doing art is not the hardest thing in the world and that if you try different different aspects and topics you could end up with something amazing. :)
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. It was going to be sport but I forgot to bring my field hockey stick and the school does not have a proper field hockey stick. The subject I chose to focus on was a brick wall because the moss on it was interesting. The hardest part of creating this piece of art was the stipple because it took a long time and it was easy to mess up. The second hardest thing was the stencil.I am proud of everything I did.I learnt that putting random dots on a piece of paper is art and is actually kind of cool looking. The best part was taking photos .There was no boring parts because IT'S ART <(u)>
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a purple and yellow flower because I loved the contrast it had with the two colours and knew it would look good in black and white. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was cutting out the smaller details in the plastic stencil. I am most proud of taking a black and white picture that clearly shows the contrast between the colours and the shadows. I learnt that leaving white spaces in stipple art will enhance the darker shades and areas.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was sport. The subject I chose to focus on was my Scooter because it was the first thing I thought of. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was getting the angle right for my photo. I am most proud of my stipple because it looked the best out of all of the panels. I learnt that you can make art with no solid lines and it will still look good.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a flower. I love how pretty and cool it looked and how it looked like something I could do that would be a challenge for me. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stipple because you had to do a lot of dots and you had to make sure to go dark to light and it was very hard to get it done with a big flower like mine. I’m most proud of how it turned out. I'm not an artist; I really suck at art but this time I think I'm getting better because I’m really happy with how it turned out. I learnt that Triptych art is a very fun thing to do and if you’re not an artist like me, if you try it, it can turn out really good. I also learnt that it is a fun thing to do in your free time and I really enjoyed it.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was music. The subject I chose to focus on was a guitar because it was related to music and I liked the guitar. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stencil because I had to cut inside the black line. I am most proud of my end result because I had put in a lot of effort in to my photo, stipple and stencil. I learnt that you can always get more detail and shadow and light into the stipple.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a Spanish Bluebell that I found in my garden because it was unique and I had never seen a flower like it before. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stencil because I didn’t know what part of the flower to use and I struggled to draw the detail in the stencil.I am most proud of my stipple because I got the light and dark areas I wanted and it took me a long time so once I had finished I was happy with the outcome.I learnt that when you are stippling you need to start dark and then go lighter as you go.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was a spring. The subject I chose to focus on was the Manukau flower. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was stippling my Manukau flower because it was hard getting the depth of the flower.I learnt how to stipple - you go dark to light.

Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was an assortment of leaves because it was the best photo I took. The hardest things about creating this piece of art was cutting out the stencil and getting to where I took the photo. I am most proud of how my stencil turned out. I learnt that art is very relaxing.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a flower from my garden because it related to the theme (because it is currently spring) and the flowers looked really pretty because they were just blooming. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was using the stipple to make the different parts of the art show the shadows (darker and lighter bits). I am most proud of finishing my piece of art because it was challenging and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to finish it on time. I learnt that the stipple looked more effective on a softer piece of paper because it absorbed the ink more.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a flower because it made it easier to choose what I was gonna do for my stipple and for my stencil. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was doing my stipple because I had to do another copy when I was just about to finish - I accidentally spilled water on it so I had to restart and I had to finish my whole stipple in one day. I am most proud of finishing my artwork because I didn't really think that I would finish all this artwork because of how much art that was needed to be done. I learnt that if you look at artwork and go “that's too much work!’ you should still try because you will possibly finish like I did.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was sport. The subject I chose to focus on was rugby ball and post because I love rugby and the photo was great. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was cutting out the stencil because I kept mucking it up. I am most proud of my photo because I like the colours and the theme. I learnt that stippling takes a lot of time and effort to get it perfect.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was sport. The subject I chose to focus on was a bike because i liked the look of it and i thought it would be good for my art. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stipple. I found it hard at the start to make it like a shadow using dark dots but I don't find it has hard anymore. I am most proud of the stipple. I did not think i was able to make shadows and make it look good. I learnt that when you find something hard and you keep trying you can make something good out of it.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a blossom because they’re my favourite flower and they are very effective and I thought it would look nice. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stencil because cutting out all the details was very hard and using the crafting knife because I haven't used them a lot. I am most proud of my photo because it turned out exactly how I wanted it to. I learnt that stipple is looks better if you start with the darker dots and then go to the lighter dots.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a daisy because I felt like it was simple but very effective and there were many ways to make it look good. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was getting the stencil right, I redid it about 7 times and still couldn’t get it perfectly right. I am most proud of my stipple. I think it has the most detail out of all three pieces and I am happy with the way it turned out. I learnt that if you don’t have the right angle or technique, it is extremely hard to use the craft knife on the stencil plastic and for it to look good you need smooth lines.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was daisy because it was beautiful. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the cutting carefully. I am most proud of doing the dots because it looked a bit beautiful when you do it carefully. I learnt that I can do better next time with cutting because it was hard when you cut the edges.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was music. The subject I chose to focus on was a piano because I wanted to do something different to other people. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the cutting of the stencil because the cutting was so difficult that I always cut outside and I had to restart. I am most proud of how my stencil turned out; it is better than I thought it would be after trying many times, which was good. I learnt a lot about photography like the rule of thirds and how it would look better from an angle.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a flower in my garden because I liked the petals in black in white, although next time I would change the tone to get a lighter petal and a darker stem. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was trying to get depth in my stencil. I am most proud of my stencil, as I redid it. On the second try I did much better with the shape. I learnt how to make a drawing by only using dots and I learnt how to make depth by making more dots in darker parts and less in light parts.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a flower because I liked the shape and the black and white details and how the flower was a nice and big sized flower. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was getting the right shade and detail and focusing on how big you do the dots and doing it light to dark onto my piece of artwork. I am most proud of finishing all my artwork because I felt while I was doing my artwork that I would not have time to finish. I learnt that I have good art skills and once you do something that you don't really like it could be a good experience .
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was sports. The subject I chose to focus on was the rugby ball because if you focused on it, the photo was a lot more clear. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was getting the right timing of the photo. I had to take the photo when my foot hit the rugby ball. I am most proud of my stipple because I had never done anything like it and I think I did well. I learnt that when stippling if you want dark shades or light shades, all you have to do is spread the dots out or put them closer together.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a vegetable because I found the lines on the broccoli leaves effective. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stipple because when you do the stipple you have to get the lighting right. For example, if you are trying to stipple the leaves, there are different colours so you have to stipple it apart (to make the colour lighter) or stipple it together (makes the colour darker). I am most proud of my stencil because when I was cutting it, I accidentally cut something I was not supposed to cut and I thought my stencil was going to be terrible but after I used the sponge and painted it, it actually turned out great. The lines I drew on it after it finished drying really stood out and I found it really effective. I learnt that if you ever make a mistake, never lose hope because it might look terrible but instead try think of a way to fix it.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was sport. The subject I chose to focus on was cricket because I would have chosen Math or Science but the theme was Spring, Sport and Music. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was my stipple because of the amount of dots. I am most proud of how I finished this piece of art and how effective it looks. I learnt that art is not a subject that happens everyday and therefore, we should this time effectively.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was spring. The subject I chose to focus on was a tree because of the branches - I liked the way that it created a pattern. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was the stippling part because it took so long but it was worth it. I am most proud of my artwork and how it turned out. I learnt that you need to be patient and at least try.
Artist StatementThe theme I chose for my triptych was a spring theme. The subject I chose to focus on was a silverbeet leaf because it had a lot of interesting detail and all these different lines and designs. The hardest thing about creating this piece of art was getting the stipple right because some parts were darker / lighter than other parts. I am most proud of completing my work and not messing up my stencil. I learnt how to use a craft knife and how to stipple correctly.
Artist StatementThe topic of my triptych is spring. The subject I first chose was a tree because I loved the dimensions of it and felt it would make a perfect triptych. The hardest thing about making this photo was finding the perfect angle going up the tree, showing its full body. I am most proud of my stipple because I reckon it shows the textures and shading well of the tree itself. I learnt that time and effort lead to success as well as good looking detail.
Artist StatementThe theme of my triptych is sport. The subject I chose was rugby. I chose rugby because it is my favourite sport. The hardest thing about creating this masterpiece was figuring out where to shade. I am most proud of my stipple drawing that I did because I think it turned out really good. I learned that you need to be careful where you shade because it might look weird when you shade where there is no light in you picture.
