In the Prison Healer the symbolic archetype we observe is Light v.s. Darkness. Zuleeka represents a dark force that is constantly searching for power and wants the worst for people. Whereas, Kiva and Jaren represent hope and goodness in a society where darkness is trying to overcome light. Eventually, in the third book there is a battle between Zuleeka and Kiva. Zuleeka overpowers Kiva with her dark magic and stabs her to take away Kiva's healer magic. By doing this Kiva is left without her magic and a way to heal Jaren if Zuleeka kills him. So Kiva takes the knife and barely grazes Zuleeka, but it is enough. Zuleeka’s dark magic is gone and the light destroys the darkness.
