In the Prison Healer series there are two important places that have developed Kiva into who she is. The first is Zalindov. Zalindov is where Kiva spends 10 years of her childhood and is also where her father passes. She develops compassion as well as grit in prison. It impacts who she becomes greatly in apothecary because she spends all of her time helping heal people who are injured. Zalindov is also where she meets Jaren and Tipp who both have a massive impact on their life. Zalindov represents how Kiva is both figuratively and literally stuck in life and represents the value of the lack of justice in her society. It also reveals her land's brokenness and corruption.
The second place is the River Palace. The River Palace symbolizes family for Kiva which she has lacked for the last 10 years of her life. It represents how Kiva can have a family again and how the people in this society are united. The River Palace also shows dependability and fullness in Kiva’s life. It shows how broken things can be made whole again.
