Friday, November 8th, CHASE hosted R-S in a final, determining football game in hopes of becoming county champions and going to state playoffs. The Farm and The Palace went head-to-head in the cold weather, surrounded by fans on either side. The Palace's side of the field was adorned with banners reading, "we're goin' cow tippin'," "yee yee'', and ''Old McDonald likes our farm better," but the Farm's side was flooded with fans: parents, alumni, students, and staff alike came to see the game of the season.
Fans visited the pre-game tailgate hosted by SGA and FFA, receiving a free meal and competing in different games and tournaments to get hyped up for the game.
Friday was senior night for the CHASE students. The bleachers were lined with the names of the seniors in the band, cheer, color guard, and football, for their parents to sit on. The seniors lined up on the field with their parents, receiving appreciation for their time dedicated to CHASE.
Right before the start of the game, the CHASE High and R-S Central High bands joined each other on the field to play the national anthem: a symbol of unity between the two schools. But, this does not mean that the game remained sportsmanlike.
CHASE players Jack McKinney, who hit a new personal record for this season with a total of 7 tackles, and Chris Moore, who scored 3 pancake blocks throughout the game, were awarded the Brotherhood Players of The Week award for not responding to unsportsmanlike conduct, such as throwing punches and kicks. On the topic of these actions, Chris Moore stated, "I felt kinda mad, but I knew I couldn't retaliate back in such an important game, and as far as reacting to the penalty, I just put my hands up and kept my head cool and moved on to the next play." Jack McKinney said, "at the moment I felt a lot of anger, but I knew I was doing my job and helping the team, so I kept blocking. When he threw the punches I just kinda laughed because I had a helmet on, so it was probably hurting him more than me."
When asked what brotherhood means to them, Moore responded, "Brotherhood means family to me," and McKinney stated, "to me, Brotherhood means to put your brothers before you and do anything for them because you know they would do anything for you. ''
Finally, when asked about the big victory, both boys had some very serious feelings. Moore stated, "I feel great about the win over a rival school, and winning county, but I'm just looking forward to the next game. I'm not going to live in the past." McKinney said, "I feel...excited about the playoffs, and I know this team we have can do huge things. The victory felt good, and it feels amazing to be County Champs, but we are not satisfied and know there is more work to be done."
The game started strong with an immediate touchdown for the Trojans. One very honorable mention goes to Kiylan Miller, who scored three touchdowns and two conversion points, single-handedly getting the Trojans almost half of their final score of 42. Cody Wells, the Offensive and Special Team Player of the Week, had acquired five pancake blocks by the end of the game. The Defensive Player of the Week was Damian Turpin, who had 7 total tackles throughout the game. The title of Hammer Player of the Week was awarded to Kayshawn Woods, who amassed 145 total yards and two conversion points.
The game ended with a very emotional win for the Trojans, who beat the Hilltoppers 42-21. CHASE is now entering the state playoffs as the number six seed for the west, with a winning record of 9-2. The Hilltoppers' record has now dropped to a losing one of 5-6. This Friday, CHASE will be hosting Draughn, who, as of now, has a record of 7-4 in the first game of the state playoffs.
