One may ask, “why should I give thanks? What is there to be thankful for?” These are important questions to think about. Most families in America are fortunate enough to have family-minded traditions. These traditions may include: gathering around together on Thanksgiving day to feast, watching football, and most importantly going around the dinner table and saying one thing that they are thankful for. There are many things to be thankful for during this holiday. The reasons for giving thanks are numerous. The importance of giving thanks is mainly about being with loved ones and enjoying a home-cooked meal. An influential person who helped develop the idea of giving was Sam Lefkowitz.
Sam Lefkowitz was an aspiring author who viewed the world in a more positive light. He refers to Thanksgiving and giving thanks in many ways. Sam Lefkowitz says it best when he states, “when asked if my cup is half-full or half-empty, my only response is that I am thankful I have a cup.” This shows that everyone should be thankful for what they have even if it is just the smallest thing in their lives. Some individuals may say to think of a list of essential things you are thankful for. The idea of why we give thanks should be based on individuals beliefs, and attitudes of an individual.
