Students identified as ELLs (emergent & simultaneous bilinguals) have the opportunity to develop academic levels of proficiency in both their home language and English through reading and content areas. The goal of the program is foster bilingualism and biliteracy, while providing many opportunities to learn two cultures.
Students receive instruction in a 50/50 language model, but learn to decode words (read) in primary language first. Instruction in reading development increases to 50/50 by third grade. All students are exposed to two languages from the start in all subjects.
