For nearly 20 years, The Consortium on Trauma, Illness, and Grief in Schools (TIG) has supported schools in Monroe County in their efforts to evolve educational practices from individual approaches to system transformation. As a partner district, RCSD staff can participate in ongoing training to continue to enhance our district’s ability to effectively respond to the holistic needs of students and their families arising from the experiences of trauma, illness, grief, and crisis. Beyond training, TIG maintains an integrated Crisis Response Network among all participating districts through mutual agreement. Through this network, RCSD has access to meaningful resources to promote coping, resilience, and recovery. In times of biggest crisis, additional support and evidence-based interventions from TIG Trained Staff across all the partner districts can be accessed by request.
We recognize the social and emotional well-being of our students and staff is critically important especially during these challenging times. The Rochester City School District (RCSD) has resources and referrals available to address the mental health, behavioral, and emotional needs of students and staff. In addition to schools supporting the educational development of students, schools play a vital role in addressing racial and social inequity.
The District offers support to students, staff and families in times of crisis. The caring presence of trained staff members is one of the most important supports one can offer. The Crisis Team is deployed in the event of severe illness, violent or unexpected death, acts of war or terrorism, natural or man-made disasters. Support may include individual, group or classroom grief counseling, and community outreach services. The crisis team consists of school administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, resource officers, family support center coordinator, and school social workers.
Below are some resources the crisis team recommends to check out if you are in need of support for any Trauma, Grief, and Loss concerns. If you would like to check them out, you can proceed to the websites below:
