Introduction: In this project, we will experiment with land reclamation. This refers to the process of creating new land by extending the coastline or constructing artificial islands. This is done by excavating materials from mountains, like soil and debris, and depositing them into the sea to extend the shoreline or form new landmasses.
Pros include expanding available land for infrastructure, housing, and economic development. Example video
Cons include environmental impacts like ecosystem disruption, water pollution, and potential safety hazards like soil liquefaction during earthquakes. Example video
Welcome to your Minecraft challenge! Here’s what you need to do:
Start with a Basic Island Map: Begin your project on a simple island map in Minecraft.
Build 200 New Homes: Your primary goal is to construct 200 homes for your residents.
Create Roads: Design roads to ensure smooth transportation throughout your island.
Add Recreation Areas: Include spaces for fun activities, such as a cinema, park, or basketball courts.
Incorporate Business Areas: Plan for areas dedicated to businesses and offices to support the community.
Bonus Challenge: Try to add a hiking trail for outdoor enthusiasts!
You have a choice: will you fit everything into the existing island, or will you expand the land to accommodate your designs? The decision is yours!
You can present your final design in one of two ways:
Screen Recording: Capture a video of your project with your voice explaining your choices.
Digital Book: Use the Book & Quill function to create a digital book showcasing your design.
You have 3 lessons to complete this challenge. Feel free to team up with classmates for collaboration! Good luck, and have fun building!
Your mission is to construct a sustainable village in Minecraft. This village should be designed to meet the needs of its inhabitants without depleting natural resources or harming the environment. Think about how your villagers will get food, power, water, and manage their waste, all while creating a thriving community.
You may choose to work individually or in small groups (up to 3 students).
Your village must incorporate solutions for the following areas:
Food Production:
Sustainable farming methods (e.g., crop rotation, efficient irrigation, animal husbandry without excessive deforestation).
Diverse food sources (e.g., multiple crops, fruit trees, fish farms).
Food storage solutions.
Energy Generation:
At least two different types of renewable energy sources (e.g., solar panels, wind turbines, hydropower from water flows, geothermal energy from lava/magma blocks).
Energy storage and distribution system.
Water Management:
System for collecting and storing water (e.g., wells, cisterns, rain collection).
Water purification methods (if applicable).
Efficient water usage (e.g., irrigation systems for farms, greywater recycling).
Waste Management:
System for recycling or reusing materials.
Composting for organic waste.
Safe disposal of non-recyclable waste.
Housing & Infrastructure:
Houses built with sustainable materials (e.g., wood from sustainable forests, stone, compacted earth/dirt).
Efficient village layout to minimise travel and maximise green spaces.
Public spaces that foster community (e.g., parks, community centre, market).
Transportation infrastructure that is eco-friendly (e.g., paths, canals, minecart lines, no combustion engines).
Biodiversity & Ecosystem Health:
Integration of natural elements (trees, plants, water bodies).
Protection or creation of habitats for local Minecraft wildlife.
Minimal impact on the surrounding biome.
