Mary Barrow, “Power of Visuals,” and Supporting Neurodiverse Learners by Using Visual Supports as a Tier 1 Intervention, wishes to gratefully acknowledge that this research, and the work that has followed, was conducted on Treaty 4 Territory, as well as the homeland of the Métis Nation. We respect and honour the treaties, and, in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration, we are committed to move forward in partnership with Indigenous Nations whose traditional lands include Regina Public Schools.
Using co-created visual supports is one step toward decolonizing the classroom by shifting power dynamics in a classroom to include the diverse perspectives and experiences of learners. The pride of co-creation of visual supports was evident in this study and allowed students to reflect their own identities, individualities, and strengths.
