A McDowell Foundation Funded and Regina Public Schools Supported Project
Website Information
This website is intended to:
Share the findings of the McDowell Foundation Funded and Regina Public Schools Supported Study, Supporting Neurodiverse Learners by Incorporating Visual Supports as a Tier 1 Intervention
Support researchers, school administrators and division/district based administrators and professionals who want to consider implementing, or refining the use of, visual supports in their schools or districts/divisions and find the research base and rationale to support planning
Guide teachers and Early Childhood Educators with the implementation or refinement of visual class-wide supports, find photo exemplars from other classrooms, and explore a visuals bank that can be used to print or modify/individualize for the classroom.
A note about safety - while this site encourages the use of visual supports (that are intentional used, co-constructed and explicitly taught), please know that in school settings fire regulations around the number of items which can be displayed apply. Consider photographing some items to put into duo tangs, mini offices or small photo albums for learners to support in reducing the amount of paper items displayed. Consider using flip charts with sticky note tabs to store items (and ensure students know where to find reference and support visuals in their classroom). Please know and follow fire safety regulations for your school.
“What can be learned by incorporating visual supports, as a Tier 1 intervention, for both neuro-majority and neurodivergent students, in primary (grade one, two, and one-two combined/split) classrooms?”
