This month holds the day of “International Animal Rights Day”! On December 10, 2025, many will raise awareness about the importance of animal rights, as well as ethical and human treatment of animals. This day serves as a reminder to many that animals deserve respect, compassion, and protection from cruelty and exploitation. This national day was established in 2011 by a group of activists, with the first events of raising awareness in New York City who came together under the name, “Our Planet, Theirs Too”. While many use this day as an opportunity to raise awareness, many also go out of their way to even raise donations to help animals who have fallen victim to cruelty and hard lives that no animal deserves. If you find yourself seeking to participate in this day. You can always advocate for animal rights, participating in campaigns, signing petitions, and even supporting legislation that protects the rights of animals. Another way to participate is choosing cruelty-free/animal friendly products and even supporting companies that don't support animal testing. You also can always engage on the internet, raising more awareness, donate to fundraisers that support animals in need or even adopt and foster animals in need.

An Underrated Holiday Treat
When you think about Christmas cookies, you typically imagine sugar cookies. However, people seem to miss a small, flaky cookie filled with sweet filling. This cookie is originally from Eastern Europe and is called the kolache cookie. The base of this cookie is made of cream cheese, flour, and butter. Making the middle is what creates its special, sweet flavor. The middle is fruit jams, and occasionally sweet filling, bringing the whole cookie together for the perfect bite. So, next time you only think of making Christmas sugar cookies, remember this unique holiday cookie.
During the holiday season, it is very common to see a bellringer for The Salvation Army at the entrance to grocery stores, WalMart, and other retail stores. Volunteering as a bellringer is a easy way to give back to those in need since most shifts last just two hours. You could volunteer by yourself and go with friends. Either way, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army is not only a great way to share the holiday spirit, but also a meaningful way to help people in need of assistance. Volunteers ring a bell, greet people as they pass by, and invite them to drop loose change or money into their iconic red kettle. The Red Kettle Campaign has been a Christmas tradition for the organization for more than 130 years. The Salvation Army relies on money raised from bell ringers to feed more than 25 million hungry people.
Snowmen have been around since the year 1830 h is about 650 years ago. Snowmen symbolize hope, joy, transformation, and of course, the holiday spirit of Christmas. It is said that people started making snowmen as a way to cope with the harsh winter weather, and like stated before - as a symbol of hope. Not only that, snowmen also symbolize the arrival of spring. The first snowman was made in the medieval times but it remains a mystery who created the first snowman. The snowman first gained popularity in England and Germany in the late 1800s. Children around the world still build snowmen every winter. Have you ever built a snowman before? Or to quote Elsa, "Do you wanna build a snowman?"

Do you have the need to hide your photos, videos, and even messages? Then “Calculator Vault” is just the app for you! This app is a tool that disguises itself as a regular calculator but provides a hidden space to store private photos, videos, and files. Users access the secret vault by entering a specific code, often using the calculator's function keys, while the app appears to be a normal, functional calculator.
Most people think grizzly bears are the most aggressive bear, but polar bears are actually way more aggressive. Polar bears' fur looks white, in reality their fur is transparent, and when their fur reflects the sun and snow. People often wonder if their skin is white also, but it's black to absorb the sun waves. Despite the Coca Cola commercials, their main food source is seals. Polar bears who live in the wild generally have a lifespan of about 20 years. Polar bears are on the threatened species list so it is important to protect them. Never forget the big, white, Christmas bear.
Did you know that an Octopus has three hearts! Two pump blood to its gills, and one pumps blood to the rest of its body. Interestingly, when an octopus swims, the main heart actually stops beating. That’s one reason octopi prefer crawling to swimming, it’s less tiring!
Mrs. Domozick
Mrs. Carla Domozick has been a teacher for 20 years, specializing in Special Education. This is her first year running the RHS Student Council, and she has been doing a wonderful job. When asked what she loves most about running a student council, she replied, “The children's motivation and willingness to come up with activities for the school is very inspiring.” Her place as the head of Student Council was a very quick and last minute decision, but she has been adjusting effortlessly despite the short notice. She was then asked where she sees the student council going in the future, to which she responded, “It’s growing and I hope to do more activities and include more students throughout the building.” If she could give any piece of advice to the students of RHS, it would be to take high school seriously. She wanted to let it be known that the student council is open to every student in the building, and if anyone wishes to join, they should send her an email.
