"Rescue One Til There Are None"
Seniors
For every rescue dog RTRC brings in there is a sad story of neglect, abuse, heartbreak and abandonment but for senior dogs it is much harder. Can you imagine your own senior dog finding themselves in a shelter with no one they know anymore hoping their owners are still coming back for them, while they wait. For how much joy they had given in their younger days, now they find themselves lost. Possibly their owners passed away and no family could take them or a family member did take the dog but did not provide any care for them.
Or the owners decided they wanted a new puppy instead so they dropped their senior dog off at a high kill shelter and they exchanged their senior for a new puppy.😢
Or they moved and left their senior to fend for themselves on the streets. Or they were used in a puppy mill situation where they spent their lives in a cage being fed the bare minimum and after years of making money for their owners they could no longer provide an income and they were dumped. Many are unable to walk properly as their nails have grown so long that they curl around the wires of the cage, and they have never experienced a loving home or even a gentle touch. 😭
Some end up in animal sanctuaries for years but for some reason never find their furever homes.
Abandonment for whatever reason is where rescue work comes is needed. RTRC does not turn these dogs away, but helps them recover from their losses in life. We get them up to date on shots and fully vetted with their vaccines and spayed or neutered. Some of them need heartworm due to the lack of providing a heartworm preventative.
For all the heartbreak they have suffered they still deserve a chance at happiness and love until their dying day.
At RTRC we can find a dog for almost anyone but before we can place them in their permanent and last home, we need fosters!
