Rat Terrier Rescue Canada (otherwise known as RTRC)  is an entirely volunteer based village, with foster homes primarily in the southern states (Texas, Louisiana, Alabama), who go into high kill shelters and pull out the helpless dogs that can be saved, provided we have the foster capacity to take them.  We take dogs of all ages that are abused, neglected and homeless that are  in immediate danger of being euthanized.  Dogs from the southern states are vetted and then transported to foster homes in Ontario. 

RTRC also takes in dogs that are surrendered by owners who are no longer able to care for them.  We work with many Ontario shelters that are confident in our ability to help place homeless dogs.

RTRC dogs may come from hoarding situations or puppy mills and found by animal control. They wander the streets, after being dumped and end up on death row.  It’s important to note that most of these dogs are healthy happy dogs that have been let down by a society with little respect or consideration for their wellbeing and life.

Prior to adoption, each of our dogs are  placed in a foster home for an assessment to identify the most fitting home environment for them. Through our screening process ,we are confident in our ability to place dogs in the most suitable adoptive environments, ensuring a harmonious match for both the dog and the prospective adopter, ultimately finding homeless dogs their ideal forever homes.
