Instructional Approach to Remote Learning

The ABCs of our Instructional Approach to Remote Learning

Along with the principles of remote learning outlined on the homepage, we are also using these design principles to guide our approach.

A - Appropriate for Age Groups

The instructional plans are developmentally appropriate and differ greatly based on grade level. The expectations and resources for a first grader are much different than those for a high school student.

B - Blended

There is a combination of online and paper-and-pencil tasks. This will vary greatly by grade level. In Grades 4-12 we will utilizing the power of Schoology, our Learning Management System, and 1:1 devices.

C - Compassionate

While it is our responsibility to ensure that our students have access to resources and materials related to instruction, we also realize that families, as well as teachers, may have other external concerns and priorities in these extraordinary times.

D - Doable

While it is our responsibility to ensure that our students have access to resources and materials related to instruction, we also realize that families, as well as teachers, may have other external concerns and priorities in these extraordinary times. Switching to remote learning is a daunting task and one that is difficult to do in such a short period of time.

E - Evolving

The original plan was developed with the assumption that we will be out of school between 2-3 weeks. Now that this has changed, the plan has change as well. We will continually reassess our plan in light of more information we get about the length of the closure and how successful we are with the remote learning. The plan may change slightly based on this information.

F- Flexible

We realize that everyone may not be able to adhere to the same schedule based on circumstances so we built flexibility into our plan. Our approach includes both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (self-paced) learning activities.
