Project Legasea

Hello, we are Project Legasea, a y2 CmPS group consisting of Cherelle, Aadila, Elyse, Iniya, Shraeyaa, Kimberly and Xin Ying. We are advocating for the reduction of plastic pollution in the ocean in order to protect marine biodiversity to preserve our oceans for future generations to come.

Through our initiatives, we aim to raise awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic, perpetuated by high usage of plastics and improper disposal of plastics on marine life. By raising awareness about these harmful effects and what you can do to make a change, we hope to change your mindsets and daily habits to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used, and thereby decrease the amount of plastic going into water bodies.

Do you know that if action is not taken, scientists estimate that the amount of plastic in the ocean will be greater than the amount of fish by 2050. What can you do as an individual to save marine life from dying? Firstly, you can reduce your plastic usage by opting for products made with alternative materials. For example, opting for silicone or metal straws instead of plastic straws would help a lot! Secondly, reuse single-use plastic by upcycling. For example, a pencil holder can be made with a used plastic bottle. Thirdly, encourage and educate students and your family to do the same! It is very important to spread the message and create awareness!

Our project has sent out our very first introduction newsletter, as well as a survey to find out more about the average RGS student’s plastic usage, in February. We will be sending out our second edition of the newsletter on the 19th of April, so stay tuned for it! Be sure to look out for our future initiatives that we plan to carry out including a skit series, to show the conditions that marine life face underwater, and collaborations with other environmental teams. We will be starting out a competition that is related to reusing plastic and will be sending out more information soon! Also, look forward to our merchandise which we will be selling soon! The profits will be donated to the cause, so do look out for our email!

Do look out for our showcase along the walkway from the PAC to the library!
