Cogitare

Who are we?

Cogitare is the math, science and environmental CCA in RGS. Set up in 2014 by combining the 3 clubs then: Scitare, Mathematics club and Environmental club, Cogitare consists of students who hold a strong passion for the sciences and studies in-depth about the different STEM topics.

Cogitare's motto is ad astra per aspera, which is Latin for "to the stars through difficulties", which conveyed the CCA's vision to reach for the best with resilience, and Cogitare's love for Astronomy.

Cogitare students take part in many STEM-related competitions each year, such as the Green Wave Environmental Care Competition, C.B. Paul Quiz, Astrigue, etc., with students achieving exemplary results each time. Cogitare aims to allow members to develop their utmost potential through the various opportunities provided. Cogitare also aims to spread the love for the environment and the sciences towards the whole school, through many initiatives such as the Butterfly Garden planning, Earth Week, and numerous VIA aimed at improving the environment within the school.

Features of Cogitare

Cogitare organises many school activities each year to allow students to have a greater interest in the environment and the sciences, such as collaborating with the Science and Humanities department to create the HUSH-STEM Week quizzes, as well as helming the annual Earth Day/Week. Cogitare is responsible for the school's Butterfly Garden and works towards the goal of helping RGS become a carbon-neutral school under the Singapore Green Plan.

Environmental Efforts

The Environment Hub is managed by Cogitare. There have been much efforts put in by Cogitare to increase awareness about the environment upon moving into the new campus at Braddell, where there are many green resources and areas accessible to the Rafflesians, such as the butterfly garden and the biodiversity trail that Cogitare is currently working on.

The Environment Hub provides updates and information regarding the environmental efforts and groups within RGS, to aid students in researching about the environment or to allow them to know how to contribute to the environment. It aims to make students to feel more engaged in environmental efforts within the school and inspire them to create their own projects or research regarding the topic. Lastly, the large variety of SVIA and CmPS environment-related projects could have a platform where more people would be able to read more about them and ease them in advocating for their projects.

The Environment Hub also includes interesting facts and latest news about the environment globally, so as to allow students to have a broader range of knowledge and pique their interest for the environment. These global environmental issues would also allow students to be aware of the fact that everyone has a part to play in slowing down global warming and that the Earth's "health" is deteriorating rapidly currently.
