A day stitched together with Thanksgiving magic! Kiddo charcuterie nibbles and hand-crafted apple pies, fruit-punch cheers shared with friends, turkeys crafted with our beloved prayer buddies, disguised turkeys proudly unveiled, homemade floats drifting through the halls, and centers filled with wonder... pumpkin-pie sensory swirls, whipped-cream letters dancing on trays, and turkeys sculpted from soft autumn clay. A celebration of gratitude, joy, and childhood sparkle!

Our Little Hunters & Gatherers Adventure
Our young explorers enjoyed a magical Hunters and Gatherers Scavenger Hunt! With curious eyes and eager hands, the children journeyed across the beautiful grounds of our school and Calvary Presbyterian Church, working together just like real foragers. Along the way, they proudly discovered treasures from nature... bright red berries, shimmering water, soft green moss, and so much more!
Before setting off, we warmed up our imaginations with the playful “We’re Going on a Scavenger Hunt” song, which added a fun, rhythmic bounce to our adventure. Their excitement continued as we gathered together to talk about how Native Americans were incredibly resourceful and creative, using the natural world around them to make food, clothing, tools, and other important items.

Our young learners stepped back in time with a hands-on Butter Experiment! To help students understand how food was made long ago... before grocery stores and modern conveniences... we created our own butter just like the Pilgrims would have!
Before shaking, the children made predictions about what they thought would happen to the heavy cream. Then, using their muscles, teamwork, and plenty of giggles, they shook their small containers and watched the liquid slowly turn into a solid.
Once the butter formed, we enjoyed a delicious taste test on soft Hawaiian rolls. After tasting, the children completed their very own butter booklets, where they practiced retelling the steps of making butter and worked on sequencing the process. They loved sharing the experience with their friends and showing how well they remembered each step!
Fry Bread Exploration
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, our Pre-K 4 students enjoyed a sensory-rich cooking exploration inspired by the book Fry Bread by Kevin Noble Maillard. After listening to the story and discussing the importance of fry bread as a symbol of family, culture, and tradition, students had the opportunity to make their very own dough!
Each child measured ingredients, combined them in a bowl, and used their hands to mix, knead, and roll their personal (play)dough ball. This hands-on process allowed students to strengthen fine-motor skills, explore different textures, and practice following multi-step directions. They especially loved rolling the dough between their palms, just like real chefs! This lesson combined literacy, culture, and hands-on learning for a truly memorable experience! :)Â

Happy Haunting from Pre-K 4A! :) Our little pumpkins had a boo-tiful time celebrating Halloween! We started the day with a reading of “The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything” and discovered that being brave can be fun! Then we joined our costume parade and spooky scavenger hunt, followed by fang-tastic activity centers like Spider Ring Toss, Fling a Spider on the Web, Rainbow Jack-O-Lantern carving, and Candy Corn Bowling. We also loved attending the 8th-grade sponsored carnival in the gym. Mrs. Galbreath and the 8th graders did an amazing job! We wrapped up our celebration with a Halloween Feast full of cupcakes, pretzels, and fruit punch, and a mummy craft to top off the day. What a spooktacular celebration full of learning, laughter, and Halloween magic! 🕸️🧡

In Pre-K 4, we do not let our curiosity sink! Before our experiment, we sang and danced along with Blippi to his "Sink or Float" Song. Our little scientists had a gourd-geous time exploring whether pumpkins sink or float! Many thought the heavy pumpkins would sink, but they were amazed to see them float instead. We practiced making predictions, observing carefully, and learning that pumpkins are hollow inside... perfect for a hands-on fall science lesson! We have been loving Fall in Pre-K 4! This knowledge will help us for our pumpkin patch field trip next week! :)Â Check out our new stuffy friend, Spookley the Square Pumpkin in our library! He helped us learned that we cannot judge a book or a pumpkin by its cover earlier this week!Â

Our class is APPLE-solutely blessed to have such amazing and loving prayer buddies! They take such wonderful care of us and help us learn how to be better followers of Jesus. Together, we tasted a variety of apple treats (red apples, green apples, apple chips, and apple pie) and washed them down with delicious apple juice! We loved using our senses of smell and taste to decide which apples we liked best and to tell the difference between sweet and sour flavors. We also enjoyed learning more about our prayer buddies’ likes and dislikes. Here’s to many more memories as sweet as a Honeycrisp! 🍎
