✎ What Would Jesus Do?: Negative behaviors and mistakes happen! Students are still learning what it means to be kind, caring friends and followers of Jesus. Part of our job as teachers and parents is to show them how to make good choices and gently guide them when mistakes happen. Each moment becomes a little lesson, helping children grow in kindness, understanding, and faith, one step at a time! Negative behaviors in our classroom are redirected and discussed with the student on an individual basis. Students may miss out on "extra" fun activities or rewards as a result of their behavior. Should any notable behavior occur, I’ll reach out by email so we can celebrate successes or address challenges together. I appreciate your support in discussing these happenings at home with your child.
✎ Positive Incentives In Our Classroom:
1. Individual Rewards....
⚝ Each child has a behavioral calendar to track their daily successes! Please initial it each night and return it to school the next day in their blue communication folder. Students have the opportunity to earn a prize from our treasure chest on Friday if they receive five smiley faces. Christ-like behavior deserves to be celebrated!
2. Whole Class Rewards...
⚝ When our class is given a compliment or doing something wonderful, we will earn a cookie point. Once we receive 10 cookie points, we will have a whole class reward.
3. Table Points...
⚝ Each table has the opportunity to earn points. At the end of each day, the table with the most points will be rewarded by having a plushie at their desk for the following day.
✎ Special Friends Stay Cozy at Home: Please do not send your child in with any toys or stuffed animals unless you send them in for a specific Show-and-Tell Day. Your child cannot sleep with a toy or a stuffed animal during naptime as well. This promotes distraction, disruption, conflict, and risk for loss or brokenness! In addition, I want to prepare children for Kindergarten, where playtime is lessened. We have ample classroom toys to play with throughout our day.
✎ Tiny Trips to the Toilet: In our Pre-K 4 classroom, we want to keep your little ones comfortable and confident throughout the day! Students have several scheduled opportunities to use the bathroom: in the morning after arrival, before and after snack and lunch, after rest time, and before dismissal. Of course, children are always welcome to ask to go whenever they need to. We encourage parents to have their child use the bathroom before coming to school, which helps start the day off smoothly and keeps everyone ready for a full day of learning, play, and fun!
✎ This Belongs To...: Please label everything... a piece of clothing, a sleeping bag, a water bottle, a lunch box, a school bag, a show-and-tell item, or anything important! Our school's Lost-and-Found is growing due to belongings without names labeled on them. In addition, sometimes the children may put things back in the wrong cubby by mistake, and someone else may take their sweatshirt home. Please help our search efforts to go a little smoother by labeling anything that comes to school for your child. Thank you!
✎ Snack, Zip, and Pack: Please send your child in with a water bottle and a snack (with the exception of soft pretzel pals) each day. Note: Some days kiddos are thirstier than others. Please do not put juice in your child's water bottle. Please place your child's snack in the labeled bag I provided you on Back-to-School Night and put your child's snack in the main compartment of their backpack next to their lunchbox (and not inside of their lunchbox). This makes unpacking easier. Each child has an unpacking checklist to complete every morning: folder, snack, lunch, and water bottle.
✎ Look What I've Got!: Show & Tell is on each Thursday (with the exception of special events, masses, etc.)! Our class typically has a theme for each week. Please help your child prepare by letting them practice presenting their item in front of you and encouraging them to use full sentences by providing them sentence starters (e.g., "I chose to bring my _______ to school today because ___________.")
