Project Zero

After our trip to Flux Space in November, a few of my peers and I discovered an idea that would help reduce waste in our school's lunchroom. Ever since Covid began, the school provided students with government-subsidized meals, available at no cost. In order to qualify as a free lunch, students are required to take a fruit or vegetable as well. However, the majority of these foods were simply thrown out, adding to the continuously growing pile of food waste. Then came the idea of introducing composting, which would help reduce the waste and ultimately help contribute to the immense issue of global warming.

The process involved researching a composting company and reaching out. Throughout the entire journey thus far, we've kept the entire lunch and custodial staff up to date to ensure we were gathering the desired information. After lots of collaboration with the company, we began meeting with our administration. After multiple encounters, our focus has shifted towards presenting to the school's safety committee, from whom we hope to get approval in order to allow us to present to the school board. From there, we would be able to actively implement our vision and pave the path to a more sustainable future.
