Volcano Adventure Camp - September 18-20, 2024
Thanks to a generous grant from the Lassen Foundation, we are going to stay two nights at the Volcano Adventure Camp! The schedule below is tentative and we need drivers/ chaperones:
9/18
1:00 - Leave Paradise
3:30 - Arrive Volcano Adventure Camp!
4:00 - Welcome/ Orientation
5-6 - Set up Camp
6-7 Dinner
7-8 Campfire/ Games
9/19
7am Breakfast & make and pack your own lunch
8am Leave for Cinder Cone
9am Hike Cinder Cone
Noon Eat lunch next to the lake
2-3 Explore Subway Cave
3-4 Explore Hat Creek Trail in Old Station
4-5 Ranger Led Activity
Return to camp, Dinner at 6pm
7pm, Ranger Led Program about Types of Volcanoes
9/20
7am Wake up and Clean up
8am Breakfast
9am Ranger Sign-out/Evaluation
9:30-10am Camp Clean-up (leave it looking better than we found it)
10-11 Travel through park to the south entrance visitor's center. Along the way, stop at summit hike trailhead (snow), Lake Helen (photo) and the Sulfur Works.
11-12 Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center
Noon - lunch at picnic area
12:30 Leave the park
2:45 Back at Paradise Ridge Elementary School
We will be back after the buses leave, please arrange a ride for you and your gear. These times are tentative, we will have students call on the way home if we are not going to be back at that time.
What to bring:
sleeping bag/ pillow
blanket
toiletries
towel (for showers)
sturdy hiking boots/shoes and thick socks
warm and cool layers (for 3 days)
waterproof layer
hat/sunscreen
water bottle
med form (if you need it) - due to Mr. H. before the trip
Backpack
Flashlight or headlamp
Past schedule for summit hike:
7-7:30am: meet at E6
9:30am: arrive Lassen trail (Hike is 5 miles round trip, website says 3-5 hours. Most middle school groups report close to 4 hours)
1:30: Visit visitor's center
2:30: Drive home
Arrive E6 around 4-6pm

What to bring:
School shirt (If you have one - if not, a green shirt)
Other layers (Some warmer like a long sleeve shirt, the summit can be cold and windy)
One WATERPROOF layer. (This can be a poncho or trash bag rolled up in your pack)
Warm hat
Sunscreen
3 water bottles
Extra socks
Sturdy shoes/ boots
Lunch (If you order a school one, you may wish to bring extra snacks from home as well.)
