English Courses

English I 

Freshman English is a comprehensive English course of literature, composition, and language, including listening and speaking. The study of literature includes reading and comprehending a wide variety of literary forms including short stories, nonfiction, poetry, drama, novels, and spoken and visual texts.


English II

English II students will read and analyze the following genres of literature: short stories, non-fiction, novels, and poetry. In addition, students will continue to develop and use reading, writing, vocabulary, listening, speaking and research skills. Students will also write analysis, reflective, argumentative, narrative, and informational pieces using the writing process. All in preparation for the AzMerit 2 and English II.


English III

English III explore the American literary traditions, and additionally focus on the development of student argumentation through the rhetorical features of ethos, pathos, and logos.


English IV

Much of the curriculum has to do with British literature, and we go back to the very beginnings of the stories and life experiences of those who spoke the earliest versions of English.
