Suggested Reading Activities


* Read alphabet books together.

* Play Eye Spy

* Read and Read and Read stories to your child

* Talk about the pictures and story together

* Retell the story in your own words

* Talk about what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story

* Draw a picture of the story and include the setting and the characters

* Go on a Phonics hunt inside and outside to find objects that start with the focus letter

* Play the Snap game - Explain to your child that you are going to say some words, and when they hear a word that starts with the target sound they should clap their hands. Slowly read through a list of words, scattering the target words throughout. Explicitly draw children's attention to the target sounds in the word as you work through the target word cards E.g sun, stop, swim, slide, spot, fan fish, frog, flag and flip

NB : Encourage the children to segment and blend words during the game. Segment s-t-o-p. Blend stop.
