During their time at Pt Chevalier School our children are encouraged to become increasingly responsible for themselves and their learning.
You can help your child to do this in the following ways:
Arrive at school before the first bell at 8.50am so that children have time to do their jobs and say goodbye without feeling rushed
Providing them with a school bag that can easily hold all their school belongings
Teaching them how to pack and unpack their school bag by themselves
Letting your child unpack their own school bag each day
Ensuring that your child can put on and take off their shoes by themselves
Providing a lunch box and drink bottle that your child can manage by themselves
Children can come into school to unpack their school bags from 8.30am.
You can support your child's reading progress by reading their school books with them each day, talking about the story and discussing the pictures. Please encourage them to learn their sight words as this supports their early reading progress.
During maths lessons children do lots of number and counting activities to develop and consolidate their early number knowledge. You can support this at home by using number names and counting everyday objects as part of normal family activities.
In addition we ask children not to bring toys to school as these can easily be lost or broken.
We are available most days before and after school to discuss any concerns you have - however small.
