What Spelling looks like at home with your child…Practise Suggestions

Spelling practice can be lots of fun!

Those high-frequency words that are so important for our progress in Literacy (Reading and Writing), can be learned from anywhere, using lots of different methods and materials.  In Year 2, the expectation is that students can spell most of the high-frequency words from Essential Lists 1 and 2, and some of Essential Lists 3 and 4. They should also be able to apply what they know about sound-to-letter relationships to attempt unfamiliar words.  Attached are some exciting ways for your child to learn these essential words in new and exciting ways. Getting the children to write a sentence using some target spelling words with correct punctuation would help improve their writing skills.

Study ladder has a wealth of spelling and phonics activities.
