* Talk about what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story.
* Draw a picture of the story and include the setting and the characters.
* Go on a Phonics hunt inside and outside to find objects that start with the focus letter.
* Play the Snap game ( Explain to your child that you are going to say some words, and when they hear a word that starts with the target sound they should clap their hands. Slowly read through a list of words, scattering the target words throughout. Explicitly draw children's attention to the target sounds in the word as you work through the target word cards eg. sun, stop, swim, slide, spot, fan fish, frog, flag and flip.
NB : Encourage the children to segment and blend words during the game e.g. s-u-n, f-i-sh
There are many options online to support your child with early reading. Please use what you think is best for your child. Here are some recommendations although a cost maybe involved: Lexia learning Core 5, Studyladder and Reading Eggs.

Your child is currently working on learning to read words from one of the following lists. Please support them to continue building the range of words they can read. There is no hurry, focus on one or two words until your child is confident with these before moving on.
* Continue to revise the alphabet and focus on the letter names and sounds.
* If you are at home you can access the books, target sounds and words through the website. You can also print of all the resources or read them online.

* Sorting game collect a group of objects from around the home and sort them by their first sound. Extra for Experts- sort them by the last sound.
*Word Wizard - think of words that start with the target sound for the week or a letter of your choice. Write words down as you go and read some together, drawing attention to the first sound in the word.
* Clap each sound you hear in a cvc word for example bin, din, fin.
