Level 1 Courses

4019 - Education Exploration - Education Exploration is a semester course designed to provide students with an overview of professions within education. Students will discover their own learning style and how learning styles impact teaching and the delivery of lessons. Experiences with various education professionals will enhance the understanding of classroom planning, licensure requirements, and career opportunities within school systems. This course includes a minimum of 15 extended learning hours, which may be outside of class time. With exemplary performance and instructor recommendation, students may apply for the Teacher Cadet program without meeting the 3.0 GPA requirement. (5 elective credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FCHS, RMHS

4310 - Child and Adolescent Development - The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development necessary for strengthening the well-being of children and families. Content focuses on perspectives of human development, research and theories, understanding and nurturing development, and challenges to development. (5 elective credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FCHS, FRHS, PHS, RMHS

7290 - Interpersonal Relationships- The purpose of the course is to acquire academic knowledge and understanding for healthy, respectful, and caring relationships across the life span. Emphasis is placed on family and friend dynamics, effective communication, and healthy interpersonal relationships. (5 elective credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FCHS, FRHS, RMHS

4041 - Teen Choices- In this course, you will learn how to make healthy decisions throughout your teen years. You will learn skills and practices required by individuals to develop, manage and strengthen: social, psychological, and physical wellness, interpersonal relationships, safe sexual decision making, anti-substance use practices, and understanding teens and the law. (5 wellness credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FCHS, FRHS, PHS, RMHS

4210 - Life Management - Students will develop decision-making skills to become educated consumers with an understanding and academic knowledge of consumer resources and financial organizations. The course focuses on personal and family resources, job and career, personal and family finances, and wellness. (Relevant topics include: independent living, healthy lifestyles, career research and job portfolios, personal financial literacy, investments, credit, insurance, leasing vs. purchasing of autos and homes.) (5 financial literacy credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FCHS, FRHS, PHS, RMHS

Level 2 Courses

✴️ 4023S1/S2 - Teacher Cadet 1 A/B - This full year course is designed for students who have a strong interest in, or who are considering a career related to, the occupation of "teacher" at any age or grade level. Students will complete self-assessments, participate in individual and group projects, complete observations at various ages and stages of learning, and increase their understanding of themselves and others as "learners". The culminating event in this class is 50 hours of field experience during second semester at an area school where students will plan and deliver lessons under the supervision of a cooperating teacher. This academic elective course is fast paced and students may apply for college credit with a "B" or higher in the class. (10 elective credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FRHS, RMHS Students can receive FRCC credit for the following courses: EDU 221 (3 credits)

✅ 7497CEFRHS - FRCC Early Childhood Education 101 - This course provides an introduction to Early Childhood Education. It includes the eight key areas of professional knowledge: 1. Child Growth & Development 2. Health, Nutrition & Safety 3. Developmentally Appropriate Practices 4. Guidance 5. Family & Community Relations 6. Diversity 7. Professionalism 8. Administration & Supervision The content of this course focuses on the development of children from birth to age eight. In Early Childhood Education 1, students will: • explore career paths related to a variety of early childhood professions • apply the eight universal core values to the needs of children from prenatal stages to age eight • demonstrate a safe and healthy learning environment for children • participate in the "Buddy-Up" program, depending on the school. (5 elective credits) This course is offered at the following schools: PHS Students can receive FRCC credit for the following courses: ECE 101 (3 credits)

Level 3 Courses

✴️ ✅ FRCC 4029S1/S2 - Teacher Cadet II A/B - Teacher Cadet II is designed to provide additional field experience for those students who have successfully completed the Teacher Cadet course. For students who know they want to enter the education profession, this field experience will enhance their understanding of classroom instruction and the challenges facing education today. The field experience include a minimum of 65 hours each semester of field contact time working with a mentor teacher plus 10 hours of seminar time at the home high school. Field experience placement will consist of two sites, a different site each semester, to provide a variety of experiences. These experiences will be documented in a culminating portfolio. (10 English credits) This course is offered at the following schools: RMHS Students can receive FRCC credit for the following courses: EDU 220 (2 credits)

⭕️✅ 7918CEFRHS - FRCC Guidance Strategies for Young Children - Explores guidance theories, applications, goals, and techniques, as well as factors that influence behavioral expectations of children. This course includes classroom management and pro-social skills development of young children in early childhood (EC) program settings. This course addresses children ages birth through 8 years. (5 PSD/3FRCC credits) This course is offered at the following schools: PHS Students can receive FRCC credit for the following courses: ECE 103 (3 credits)

  • ELIT 290 - Survey of Diverse Literature for Children (3 UNC credits, 5 PSD Language Arts credits)

Level 4 Courses

✴️ 4034 - Work-Based Learning: Education - The Work-based Learning (WBL) experience allows for the application of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities that are delivered through the coursework of the Program of Study (POS). Students build on prior knowledge and skills in the program of study to further develop and apply employability and technical skills that prepare them for success in future careers and post-secondary education. (Variable elective credits) This course is offered at the following schools: FCHS, FRHS, PHS, RMHS

EDU 188 - FRCC Practicum I - Provides students with the opportunity to supplement coursework with practical work experience related to their educational program. Students work under the immediate supervision of experienced personnel at the education facility and with the direct guidance of the instructor. (Variable elective credits) This course is for students co-enrolled in Teacher Cadet and offered at the following schools: RMHS

EDU 288 - FRCC Practicum 2 - Provides students with the opportunity to supplement coursework with practical work experience related to their educational program. Students work under the immediate supervision of experienced personnel at the education facility and with the direct guidance of the instructor.
