Executive Functioning
Recording of Unconference session 8.20.20
We will share our research of best practices to teach students and families more about executive functioning and practical strategies for implementing within a remote environment. The second half of our session will be an opportunity for an exchange of ideas between all participants.
This session brought to you by Meaghan Cells, Alisa Conner, Fukiko Shapiro, and Jennifer Jaruse
“Executive functioning” refers to the set of mental skills we need to plan, prioritize, organize our time and our stuff, sustain our attention, get started on and stick with challenging tasks, and manage our emotions. These can be especially challenging for students in a remote or hybrid learning environment. Here we aim to provide resources for families and students to support executive functioning skill development at home.
We invite educators, families, and students to explore the following sections:
What is Executive Functioning? These resources provide a basic overview of EF skills and behaviors for those new to learning about Executive Function.
These resources provide suggestions and strategies families can use to support their student's development of executive functioning skills at home.
Students can use these checklists to think through the best ways to set themselves up for success this year, in terms of organization, work flow management, and daily routines.
