Early Pick Up Procedures

If you need to take your child home early, please follow the procedures below so that when you pick up your child we can make sure it is an easy transition.

Birthday Policy

At PS 24, the last Friday of each month will be assigned as Merry Unbirthday Day to celebrate the birthdays of our students for that month.

Blue Emergency Cards

Each student must have two (2) BLUE CARDS completed with current contact information. They are kept on file in the Main Office and with the School Nurse. Your privacy is respected and no information is given out from this card without the Principal's knowledge and consent. The BLUE CARD is our first source of information in case of any emergency. If your child becomes ill while in school, he/she will be checked by our school nurse who will determine what course of action is required. Your child will only be released to a parent/guardian or an authorized adult as specified on the BLUE CARD. To complete the emergency contact card or update any contact information, please email our Pupil Secretary, Mon Jee at mjee@schools.nyc.gov.

Code of Conduct

For more information on Code of Conduct, click here.

Homework Policy

The purpose of homework is to reinforce lessons taught during the day and to allow our students to sharpen their skills. Homework is given on a daily basis, so be sure to check your child’s homework folder or Google Classroom for instructions. As your child progresses through the grades, the amount of homework will increase, as needed. Short and long-term assignments are given to increase your child's ability to read, write, comprehend and integrate what he/she learns into a whole learning experience. Please make sure your child completes homework and projects in a timely manner. These are important life skills that will serve him/her well as life-long learners. Your child is expected to read independently at home daily; your teacher will advise you of the appropriate level and amount of time your child should devote to reading.

School Safety

The safety of our students, teachers, staff and parents/guardians is our primary concern. Please follow the rules below so that all of us remain safe. We will enforce these rules and be vigilant about security for everyone who enters, stays and leaves our school premises.

Parents/guardians and visitors are allowed in the school building by appointment only. Visitors with an appointment stop at the Security Desk and state the nature of their business to alert their host. Visitors must show the School Safety Agent their PHOTO ID.  All visitors must exit through the Main Entrance (Exit 1) and return all passes to the Security Desk.

If you do not have an appointment, you must alert the School Safety Agent the nature of your business and wait in the main lobby. Parents/Guardians will not be allowed in their child's classroom. If your child is sick or to be picked up early, please alert the School Safety Agent and a staff member will escort your child to the main office where you will sign your child out of school for the day.

Our children are our most valued treasures, and their safety and well-being are our top priority. Please cooperate with these measures for everyone's safety.
