School Closing Procedures
PS24Q Procedures During Bad Weather
In the event of extremely bad weather, PS24 students will attend remote learning at home to complete their classwork, homework and meetings online.
The New York State Department of Education guidelines require that NYC schools opt for remote learning when storms prevent students from coming into the building. This will ensure that the city meets the requirement for 180 days of instruction to avoid having to make up snow days later in the year.
NYC DOE Procedures During Bad Weather
The New York City Department of Education will keep schools open on bad weather days and students are expected to attend classes fully remote online for that day.
All schools must follow the Citywide announcement to close schools.
No school may open late, let students out early, or close for the day without the permission from the Chancellor or Deputy Chancellor of Operations.
The Chancellor or Deputy Chancellor of Operations will announce the decision to go 100% remote and cancel after-school activities. This decision is only made after consulting with the Mayor's Office and other city agencies.
The decision to go 100% remote will be made before 5:00 AM. The Department of Education’s Office of Communications and Media Relations will contact the Associated Press news service, radio, and television stations before 5:00 AM.
All information can be found on the NYC Department of Education's website, Facebook page and Twitter account.
