Elementary Literature (with Geography)

Grades: 1st - 6th

Tutor: Allison Dod

Elementary literature at Providence will include in depth studies of classic children's novels and other literature including Aesop's fables and Proverbs. First and second graders will read The Cricket in Times Square, Mr. Popper's Penguins, and A Bear Called Paddington. Third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders will study The Sign of the Beaver, The Twenty-One Balloons, and The Wind in the Willows. In addition to literature, the students will also learn sing along geography songs to memorize the names of the countries of the world. Each week a new song from Larry and Kathy Troxel's "Sing Around the World" Geography Songs will be introduced with a map to color that corresponds with the countries taught in the song. By the end of the year, they will be familiar with the names and locations of 195 countries.
