Fall and Spring are prime aeration seasons as the temperatures are perfect for germination of grass seed. The ideal time to spread grass seed is when the day time temperatures are 70's with a night time temperature of 50's!
Why is Aeration and Seeding so Important for a Healthy Lawn ?
Healthy Roots. By aerating it provides the roots with oxygen, water, and nutrients which in return help the roots grow stronger and deeper into your soil to be more resilient against the hot summer temperatures.
Thicker grass. When aerating it allows space for new grass shoots to grow either which in returns makes your lawn denser, greener, and leaves less room for weeds to grow through.
Less Compaction. If you do not aerate on a regular routine schedule, then your soil becomes compacted, especially in high traffic areas! When the soil is loosened, it allows the roots to grow deeper and allows water to soak in easier.
Better Absorption. Once your soil is aerated, it allows water to soak into the ground more efficiently, which in return reduces runoff in your lawn and helps your grass absorb the moisture it needs to grow!
Weed Control. Last but not least, a well aerated lawn will naturally fend off weeds without the need of harsh chemicals. Thick grass makes it harder for weeds to penetrate through your soil.
Don't forget to water your newly germinated seed until it becomes established!
