The America Reads & Counts program is designed to enhance primary-level reading and math skills of children in New Bedford and Fall River, while providing UMass Dartmouth students the opportunity to gain work experience and give back to their community. A majority of our tutors are funded through Federal Work Study.
America Reads*Counts Tutors
Tutors provide one-to-one and/or small group instruction for school age (PreK-8th grade) children in the New Bedford and Fall River areas. They are placed in a local school or after-school program based on best fit, hours of availability, teacher needs, and location. The focus is on increasing the reading and writing proficiency and the mathematical skills of these children. Tutors report to the America Reads & Counts program staff. Tutors can work during school and after-school Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 8 PM .
Fall 2020 rosters will be distributed to sites via email by September 28th.
