The Analyze stage of PDI is comprises the remember, understand, apply stages of Bloom's Taxonomy. Without the ability to recall, understand, and apply basic skills an artist cannot move to the next level of learning and be able to harmonize(collaborate) with their peers to draw connections and to organize their work.
The Harmonize stage of PDI is paralleled with the Analyze and Evaluate stages of Bloom's Taxonomy. The key terms for Bloom's fourth and fifth stages include to organize, relate, distinguish, select, support, and value, all of which are needed to perform as a cohesive performing group. The artist must demonstrate the four levels of Bloom's taxonomy to be a competent and productive member of any instructional or performing unit.
The third and fourth stages of PDI, the Improvise and socialize stages parallels the create level in Bloom's taxonomy in many ways but the experiences of creating and sharing are not always present at the same time. I suggest that the student is able to create and must define and refine what changes they have made to the Harmonization stage.
The Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels can be compared and connected to the Performance Driven Instruction Protocol with any curriculum.
Level one words (match, repeat, draw, memorize) challenge the learner to grasp basic fundamentals of each individual task that a student must understand to continue life-long learning. Fundamentals are never done!
Level two words relate to student skills (Interpret, compare, interpret, distinguish) and PDI actions like construct, display, and show are necessary steps to HARMONIZE with peers.
Level three words focus on strategic thinking which relates to the IMPROVISE stage. Key actions like use concepts to solve non-routine problems, differentiate, revise are valuable steps new the generation of new knowledge.
level four words focus on Extended Learning which is synonymous with Socialize in PDI protocol. Students Create, synthesize, and apply concepts.
