Following the completion of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway to Lynton in 1898 the owners believed that a branch from Bratton Fleming to Simonsbath could be viable, serving the Simonsbath slate quarry and the farming community, allowing them to get their produce and livestock to the Barnstaple markets. It would also open up the new Victorian passion for hill walking to the people from Barnstaple.
Simonsbath has also featured in the January 2021 issue of 009 News and featured in the December 2023 issue of Railway Modeller.
