Snapper Halt is on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, situated between Pilton Yard and Chelfham. The halt is approximately 2 ½ miles from the L&B terminus at Barnstaple Town and was timetabled for a journey time of 10 minutes, the halt opened in 1903 to serve the nearby hamlet of Goodleigh.
The inspiration for the model of the Snapper Halt is drawn from contemporary drawings, maps and photographs; the model is a representation of what Snapper could look like, overlooking the Yeo valley, should the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust re-open the line below Chelfham towards Barnstaple.
The model size is 1220mm x 290mm with a backscene giving a total height of 250mm and can be used as a linking board or a station module. The track plan is very simple – the single line track through Snapper Halt was on a long straight section about 20 feet below the road running alongside it.
Snapper Halt has featured in the July 2021 edition of the Railway Modeler.
