Whilst the main reason for getting together was just to have some fun with running OO9 trains, an opportunity arose to display some of the modules at the South Devon Railway's Models and Miniatures event in September 2018.
Since then, we have been very honoured to be asked to take part in a number of exhibitions and have happily spread the word about the benefits of modular 009!
We were very kindly invited along to the first exhibition held at the Tavistock Methodist Church. We all had a very enjoyable time operating yet another unique configuration of our modular layout which featured a brand new board - Dartmoor Brewery!
We were very privileged to be invited to take part in the Great Electric Train Show at the Marshall Area, Milton Keynes, in 2024 and were able to present a number of new modules in an unusual configuration that included 2 triangle junctions and two reverse loops.
For the first time at an exhibition, we also 'employed' a full-time signal person and were able to keep between 5 and 7 trains moving across the layout, more or less continuously over the two days!
We were very kindly invited to attend the excellent Rattery Little Train Show hosted by Sven from Tramfabriek and the Rattery Village Hall Committee.
The venue was fantastic and Sven had collected together a really interesting collection of exhibitors and the village hall helpers had provided a wonderful array of cakes - a perfect day!
This show featured the first exhibition outing for Martinhoe station (right hand side) which did a sterling job throughout the day.
The group were very honoured to be able to take place in the Warley 2023 annual exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham in November 2023.
The arrangement of modules chosen was the largest yet, providing over 33 of 'end to end' running and required 8 operators to keep trains moving around the layout and fetched several new modules that had not been exhibited before.
We were very honoured to be included as part of the 50 invited area group layouts for the Societies 50th anniversary exhibition at Statfold Barn, Tamworth in September 2023.
Without doubt, this was one of the best exhibitions we had attended with truly excellent layouts.
Possibly our biggest layout (so far!), Exeter 2023 featured a selection of modules and linking boards from our members including Blackmoor, Lefton, North Molton, Newbridge, West Hollowcombe and Lynton.
We were invited to demonstrate our modular layout at Ford Park Cemetery in March 2020, to support the charity that helps maintain this historically important Plymouth landmark. During the Saturday and Sunday we were there, over 100 people came along to have a cup of tea, chat with us and watch the trains able up and down, and the event helped raise over £200.
In July 2019 we were very pleased to have the opportunity to take part in the Exeter Model Railway Exhibition.
The arrangement of modules chosen for the exhibition layout used Barnstaple and Pilton Yard with the link, an extended Hunts Quarry, Brayford, plus link boards of the Cutting, The Bridge, Transfer Sidings, Embankment curve plus two 'demonstration' modules as shown below:
We were lucky enough to be invited again in 2019 and were able to present an extended layout from the previous year with the additions of an extension to Hunt's Quarry and a brand new station, Simonsbath.
We were both surprised and delighted to be voted 'Best in Show' by the public!
